Businesses Vote YES to Barrow BID         

Businesses in Barrow voted in favour of the proposal to establish a Business Improvement District (BID) for the town centre. The result of the ballot was declared on Friday 29 April confirming that 77% of voters (165 out of 213) had voted in favour of the proposal to establish the Barrow BID.

The initiative comes from local business people who are determined to ensure that Barrow thrives now and into the future as a centre for shops and services.

A BID provides the means for local businesses of all sizes to act collectively, to pool their resources, and develop projects and services that will benefit the town centre and to ensure that it remains competitive and vibrant during these challenging times and well beyond.

This website is here to help Barrow’s business community to learn more about the BID as a means to revitalise the town. We hope its content will inspire local business people and encourage them to get involved.

Barrow BID Proposal document to be shared at The Forum on Wednesday 16 March 2016.


Invitations have been circulated to business owners and managers, as well as many other interested parties, for the event to launch the Barrow BID Proposal. The event is open and all those with an interest in the future of Barrow town centre will be welcome. Details here.



Businesses set priorities for town centre revival

Over one hundred businesses have responded to a survey to describe what they see as the priorities for improving trade in the town centre. More on our news page.


Businesses being asked about their priorities

As part of the ongoing consultations to inform the development of a BID proposal for the town centre, businesses in Barrow are being encouraged to complete a short questionnaire survey to establish the priorities. From Saturday 11 July onwards questionnaires will be distributed to over 400 business premises to gauge the priorities of businesses. Completed questionnaires will be collected by the BID Co-ordinator and his volunteer helpers.



Barrow BID launches Facebook page.

Consultations with businesses regarding the possible introduction of a Business Improvement District (BID) for the town centre have taken another step forward with Barrow BID's new Facebook page. Please take a look and keep in touch with this exciting new initiative.

BID Co-ordinator Appointed

Chris Kolek has been appointed by Barrow BID steering group to co-ordinate the development of a proposal for a new business improvement district in the town centre.
