Barrow BID Company up and running!
The not-for-profit body charged with delivering the town centre's Business Improvement District was incorporated on 11 August 2016 (company number 10326123)
and work is already underway to get things moving. Chaired by Simon Craig (store manager at Marks and Spencer) the company board of directors are moving forward with plans to finance the initiative through a levy on
businesses in the town centre (N.B. Eligible businesses are those with a Rateable Value of £4,000 or more). To do this requires an operating agreement
with Barrow Borough Council who will collect the levy - a compulsory charge - and ring-fence the fund before transferring it to the BID Company to
deliver on the 4 priorities set out in the Barrow BID Proposal (refer below).
Businesses in Barrow voted in favour of the proposal to establish a Business Improvement District (BID) for the town centre. The result of the ballot was declared on Friday 29 April confirming that 77% of voters (165 out of 213) had voted in favour of the proposal to establish the Barrow BID.
The initiative comes from local business people who are determined to ensure that Barrow thrives now and into the future as a centre for shops and services.

This website is here to help Barrow’s business community to learn more about the BID as a means to revitalise the town. We hope its content will inspire local business people and encourage them to get involved as well as keeping them informed.
